About Mrs. Kızıl

Hello! My name is Pascal Kızıl, English teacher and book lover from The Netherlands. I started this book blog in november 2020 to encourage my students to read books, but if you are not one of my students you are also welcome to read my book blogs and reviews.

I have been reading books since ever I can remember. One of my favourite books from my childhood is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which I would borrow from the library over and over again.

I started reading English books at the age of 10, because I did not want to wait for the Dutch translations of Harry Potter. I then quickly learned how much more fun it is to read books in English, because sometimes jokes get lost in translation.

Today I mostly read YA Fantasy, but I tend to stray towards Adult Fantasy, Horror and recently I added Sci-Fi to my list. My favourite authors include Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo and Jay Kristoff.

Fun facts:

  • Although I am Dutch, I have got a Turkish last name. I married my Turkish husband in Turkey in 2015.
  • I also love cats! I have got two cats: Floki and Misty.
  • I recently started roller skating. I dance on my roller skates and you might find me in the local skate park trying out new tricks.
  • I play guitar and I own three guitars. My favourite one is my violet Gibson Les Paul Goddess: a rare guitar which was especially designed for women.
